(Reprinted from the Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of London, 2nd Series, vol. xi, p, 430, by kind permission of the Council, and with the sanction of the Author.) This barrow which is now about to be described is situated within a few feet of the high-road from Cow- bridge to Bridgend, at a place called the Golden Mile, upon the estate of Mrs. Collins Prichard of Pwllywrach, the lady of the manor. Some years ago it is asserted that the then owner of the property, wishing to satisfy his curiosity, made an opening into the mound from the north side, near the centre, and, as might be expected, did not find any interment; and, upon meeting with large stones at a distance of about twenty feet from the outside, he gave up the venture as hopeless. The next exca¬ vation was made by Mr. Collins Prichard about two years ago. He entered the barrow from the east end, driving a narrow trench in about twenty feet, and gradually expanding it at the centre. He met with no less than nine vessels of British pottery, all arranged near the centre, at short distances apart; each, it is 5th see., vol. v. 7
