Accessibility Statement

We have attempted to make our site as accessible as possible by anticipating user needs and supporting a range of technology.

Navigation and browsing

We have included a Skip Navigation link on all our pages and standard access keys (Windows, press ALT + an access key; Macintosh, press Control + an access key).

  • Access key 1 - Home page
  • Access key 3 - Table of contents (Browse titles)
  • Access key 4 - Search
  • Access key 8 - Terms of use
  • Access key 9 - Feedback
  • Access key 0 - Accessibility statement

Our pages are constructed so that you can use the tab key to jump to the next link and press ENTER to follow the link.

Changing the text size in your browser will change the navigation links and website information text. (For information on customising your browser see Magnifiers will enlarge any part of a screen. Changing the standard text display colours will affect paragraphs but not all labels on this site, and won't affect the page images.

All pages have rel=previous, next, up, and home links to aid navigation in text-only browsers.

All pages include a search box. There is also an advance search page.

All pages on this site use structured semantic markup. H1 tags are used for main titles, H2 tags for subtitles. This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout. This site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified "text size" option in visual browsers.

Viewing journal pages with a browser

Four view options are provided as separate tabs:

  • normal size for standard screens 650px or larger; you will need to scroll down to see the bottom of the page
  • large size displays correctly on all screens, but you will need to scroll right and down to see the whole page
  • zoom image for browsers supporting Flash, a fully zoomable image (in addition to the mouse controls, keyboard Ctrl and space bar keys will zoom in and out)
  • text  size can be changed in your browser

Viewing pages with a screen reader

The text version of a page should be rendered correctly. Note that the text version of a page has been created automatically and will contain some errors.  PDF versions will contain images only, and cannot be read by a screen reader.
